Success Story – Southeast Office

Mrs. H and her husband are a middle-aged couple who live in Anahuac. For the past seven years, their lives and source of income have centered around crabbing. When Hurricane Ike struck the Texas Gulf Coast last summer, the storm not only devastated their home, but also their way of life. Mrs. H and her husband, ages 60 and 55, respectively, were not sure how they would recover and begin rebuilding their lives. That was when they came to BPSOS to share their story.

Success Story – Port Arthur

Location: Port Arthur
Case Manager: Mary Carrier

Mr. G is a young man living in Port Arthur. His apartment suffered property damage when Hurricane Ike struck the Texas Gulf Coast last year, and he did not have renter’s insurance to provide any assistance with recovering. He called on the Lutheran Social Services Disaster Recovery Program to help and the case was later assigned to BPSOS.

Immediately after opening Mr.G’s case, I visited him at his apartment. The apartment complex had replaced the property that had been damaged by the storm, but since Mr.G did not have renter’s insurance, his two television sets, a microwave and a sofa were ruined.
